David W. Hughes, 80, of Coal Run, Ohio, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2014) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 18, 1934, in Coal Run, Ohio, son of Howard W. and Catherine P. Simon Hughes. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and worked for many years at the Marietta Convalescent Center in Marietta and as a guard at Ohio Power Company Muskingum River Plant for Wackenhut Company. He graduated from Beverly High School in 1952 and served in the US Air Force from 1954 until 1974. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #750 at Lowell, 40&8 in Beverly and the DAV in Marietta. He attended the Coal Run Church of Christ.
He is survived by two sons, Merle Hughes of Waterford and Erik Hughes of Parkersburg; a daughter, Sheri Hughes Lane of Waterford; four grandchildren, Chelsea Hughes, Hailey Marsee, Kristen Hughes and Dustin DeLancey; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Elinor Bauerbach and Frances Limbacher.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Evangelist Rich Lemal officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Lowell with Military services at the grave. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
