Allen E. Rupp, who has been superintendent of Marietta City Schools since 1960, will retire in August. During his 41 years in education, Rupp served Marietta High School as an instructor, assistant principal, and principal. He was also a school superintendent in Cambridge and Fremont, Ohio.
100 years ago
William Stanley of Beverly, former employee of the C. Hutchins Cigar Company, attempted to murder his wife with a revolver and then take his own life. Law officers caught Stanley as he boarded the inter-urban car south of Beverly. He is being held in jail, while his wife is in the Marietta hospital.
