Mrs. Shirley Wilson of Marietta submitted the best safety slogan and essay from Washington County in the statewide Ohio Department of Highway Safety contest. Her winning entry was, "Make it happy, not haunting - drive to arrive."

A crowd of the idle rich assembled in Marietta's police court to witness the season's most enthusiastic joy-riding party as it was fined a total of $54.75. C. E. Hicks was caught propelling his father's car around the business district at a rate of 30 to 40 miles per hour, while the refreshment committee enjoyed beer in the back.
