Dr. Joseph Manley, Marietta College's first football coach, died at the age of 92. A Harvard graduate, Manley introduced football to the school in 1892 and coached the team to victories over Ohio State, Ohio University, and West Virginia University.

While Marietta's annual Easter parade was at its height, two horses came running loose down Front Street and turned onto the sidewalk on Putnam, scattering pedestrians left and right. The equine paraders dashed wildly to the Empire Cafe and tried to make a forced entrance, but eventually disappeared into the alley by Strecker Brothers.
