BELPRE - Sophomore right-hander Devyn Farley spun a two-hitter and Waterford took advantage of five Belpre errors in the final four innings to post a 10-1 TVC Hocking Division baseball win over the host Golden Eagles Wednesday afternoon at Civitan Park.
Farley, now 3-0 as the Wildcats improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the TVC Hocking, allowed only two leadoff singles -- by Ryan Epperly in the second and Logan Plummer in the sixth. He fanned six and walked just two.
Freshman shortstop Clay Hayes hammered a solo homer to left with one out in the Waterford second for a 1-0 lead. But Belpre's Chayse Hostottle made several key defensive plays at shortstop and Epperly behind the plate threw out two baserunners trying to steal second to ward off any more Waterford scoring in the game until things started to fall apart for the Golden Eagles.

Waterford’s Daulton Shriver, left, and Belpre’s Logan Plummer look for a call at first base Wednesday after Shrive took a throw from shortstop Clay Hayes.
After Belpre, now 5-3 overall, knotted the count at 1 in the third on a Wildcat error, Mitch Ginther delivered a sacrifice fly in the fourth for a 2-1 Waterford lead that expanded to 3-1 when Cameron Bosner beat out an infield single to plate another Wildcat run.
The 'Cats added more two tallies in the fifth frame on a run-scoring groundout by Cody Paxton and RBI double off the bat of Mitch Ginther, then tacked on another pair of runs in the sixth on an Issac Huffman RBI double and run-producing groundout by Brent Ginther.
Finally, three Belpre errors in the seventh enabled Waterford to put up its last three runs on two miscues sandwiched around Huffman's bases-loaded walk.

"Devyn pitched a great game; he went seven strong innings," said Waterford head coach Chad Augenstein. And on Hayes' homer, "he hit a nice shot, but he's got the stick to do it -- it's just a matter of him getting relaxed at the plate and going through the swing," said Augenstein.
The coach said that "coming into this season, I knew we'd be young, but also that we'd be very athletic with a lot of baseball smarts."
Belpre head coach Terry Mullen said that "it's been either good, bad or ugly" with his team this year. "And after the first three or four innings today, most of it was bad or ugly. We can play great at times, but not at all other times -- like we're just going through the motions."
