Wood County Christian School
Wood County Christian senior Patrick Goff scored over 900 points during his 3-year varsity career.
Sports: basketball, baseball
College: Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas
Major: mechanical engineering
Family: Brian and Dedra (father and mother); one older sister Alexandra and one little sister Madelyn.
Question: As a senior, do you feel like you accomplished all your goals as a basketball player this past winter?
Answer: I think most of them. We got to the Final Four at state, but I feel like we (Wildcats) could've gone further. Individually, I finished with around 915 career points.
Q: What are some of the highlights of your basketball career?
A: When I was a sophomore, we won state, and that was a real good experience. That team really worked and played together well.
I was recently named WTAP student-athlete of the week.
I don't think I ever scored more than 30 points in a game, but I did have 26 or 27 against Waterford. Only thing is, we lost, so it's kind of a bitter memory.
Q: Are you planning on playing basketball at Harding University?
A: No. I think it would be too hard to both play basketball and major in mechanical engineering. I'm going to focus on my studies.
Q: Why did you select Harding University?
A: My parents went there, and my older sister, who graduated from Wood County Christian, is going there, now.
Q: Who has been influential in your basketball career?
A: My dad. He is also the assistant coach on the team. He's always there to help me out and provide guidance.
My mom's been great, too. She goes to all the games.
And, Coach (Dan) Ellis has always been a good example. I've really enjoyed playing for him.
Q: What do you do when you're not playing sports?
A: I like to run, usually a 5K, around Vienna (W.Va.). I ran last year's Turkey Trot.
I also do a lot of stuff with our church youth group.
Q: How's the baseball team doing?
A: I think we're 2-2. We've had a lot of rainouts this spring. This is my first year of baseball. I play center field.
