- Students in Mrs. Harold Dean's third grade at Fairview Heights School became pioneers for a day, using quill pens and student-made copies of the New England Primer. Pupils also read a story of the journey from New England to Marietta in the book, Wagons Away, by local author Josephine Phillips.
100 years ago
- Four boys were joy-riding around Marietta at a speed of 25 to 30 miles per hour, while the speed limit in the business district is 8 miles per hour. Jennings Carner, John Wharff, Lawrence Pfaff, and Arthur Neptune were apprehended by patrolmen Wolfe and Britton.
