If you haven't attended any of the past Merchants and Artists Walk events in downtown Marietta and the Historic Harmar District west of the Muskingum River, we urge you to check out this Friday's 2014 kickoff event.
The walks pair local artists of all sorts with downtown and Harmar neighborhood merchants. Artists set up shop in front of the various participating businesses. Visitors stroll the sidewalks and take in the various talents of artists. Last year more than 40 merchants participated and close to the same number of artists got involved. Just look for the signs in front of the stores to see who is participating.
We're sure you'll see somebody you know during your walk around town. Everybody does.
And there's likely to be a few items that will catch your eyes at Marietta's array of shops.
WesBanco is organizing the walks this year and employees Bonnie Rake, Katie Shearon and Jonelle Crooks-Merritt have volunteered to pair the merchants and artists together. Kasandra Ruscitto of the Original Pizza Place is in charge of music and other entertainment. Thanks to all of them and the bank for getting involved.
New this year is an area by WesBanco on Second Street for nonprofit groups to publicize their causes.
The Merchants and Artist Walk can be a fun night on the town that's close to home. We hope you give it a try from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Any downtown business, artist, musician or nonprofit interested in participating can contact Bonnie Rake at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (740) 422-7416. Applications can be found online
