Washington County mounted deputies will to go to Athens to assist with security for a visit from President Lyndon B. Johnson. Speaking in observance of Ohio University's 160th anniversary, Johnson is expected to deliver a major address concerning the federal Appalachia program.

Walter Stevens, 14, and Ralph King, 12, inmates of the Washington County Children's Home, had an attack of the wanderlust and disappeared from the institution. When police found them playing with companions, the pair made a dash for freedom, but halted after Officer Britton fired a couple shots from his pistol.
