Women of Marietta may play a greater role in the affairs of the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce. Trustees of the chamber approved a suggestion by Robert Richardson that there should be a women's branch of the chamber.

Mrs. Katharine Rapp, widow of William Rapp, hosted a celebration in honor of the sixtieth anniversary of her coming to America from Hesson, Germany. After arriving in New York City on May 11, 1854, she spent nine years in Wheeling, West Virginia. She has been a resident of Marietta for 39 years.
