Gale "Red" Bennett, 69, of Marietta, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 26, 1945 in St. Marys, W.Va., to the late Howard and Audra Lamp Bennett.
Red was employed at Mahone Tires in Marietta as a front end alignment man for several years, where he then started his own business and ran for 37 years. He was well known in the community for his talent in repairing vehicles. He was a school bus driver for Frontier School District.
Red enjoyed camping, motorcycle riding, shooting pool and pony pulling (which was not just a hobby but a passion). In his younger days he loved fast cars and always had love for the Chevrolet automobile. Gale came from a large family where he loved spending time with his children, family and friends.
Gale is survived by his wife, Kay; 9 children, Mark Carder, Robin Barth, Angela Stover, Lisa Stover, Shannon Camino, Mikka Kincaid, Staci Sayre, Amy Riggs and Dawna McNeely; 23 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two brothers, Blaine Bennett, Randy Bennett; sister, Bobbie Jeffers; several special sons-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Crystal McDonald, and a daughter, Athena Carder Hardison.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 7 at the Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, with Tim Bennett officiating. Burial to follow in Clay Point Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
