Joan Elizabeth Hancock, 92, of Washington Court House, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home, Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at 2:08 p.m.
Mrs. Hancock was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Petoskey, Mich., to Warren Edward and Martha Catherine Curtis Burns.
She was a 1939 graduate of Marietta High School, and attended Stevens College and Marietta College. She moved to Washington Court House from Marietta in 1953. She formerly was an assistant director of personnel and industrial relations at the American Cyanamide Company in Marietta. Mrs. Hancock was a member of the Fayette Bible Church, where she was the last of the founding members. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Colonial Dames of America. She was an owner and breeder of Keeshound dogs and was an award winner at dog shows across the country.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas John Hancock, M.D., on Jan. 31, 2014; and by two sisters, Mary Jane Hoult and Patricia Roach. She is survived by her church family.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 7, at the Fayette Bible Church, 1315 Dayton Avenue-NW, Washington Court House, Ohio, with the Rev. Tony Garren, pastor at the church, officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Marietta. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service, Monday, July 7, at the Fayette Bible Church.
