"Union fat-cats...myth or reality?"

So...you think labor unions are run by cigar chomping "Union Fat Cats", who receive outrageous salaries and benefits, while living a life of luxury comparable to Saudi Arabian Princes, lording their unrestrained power over the entire United States of America... all on the backs of the union-enslaved workers they represent. Here's your chance to prove it.

That is a Commentary by -

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is a Washington, D.C.-based think tank that analyzes the impacts of budget policies and promotes effective approaches to reducing poverty. It was founded in 1981, and is based in Washington, D.C. The Center describes itself as a "policy organization...working at the federal and state levels on fiscal policy and public programs that affect low- and moderate-income families and individuals".[1] CBPP is organized as a 501(c) nonprofit. Though it describes itself as non-partisan,[2] journalists have characterized it as liberal or left of center.

I look forward to seeing the truth but I'm afraid that you'll get very little of it there !Another biased rightwing crap factory ! But that gives some insight as to your current state of mind ! If you spend all day looking at that garbage it will rot your mind and create a hostility toward the president or whomever they choose to vilify that day !!You'd be better off watching cartoons or something !

Looking for a good paying job? Well, look no further. No, really, stop looking. In 35 states, welfare benefits pay more than a minimum wage job, according to a new study by the libertarian Cato Institute, and in 13 states welfare pays more than $15 per hour. “One of the single best ways to climb out of poverty is taking a job, but as long as welfare provides a better standard of living than an entry-level job, recipients will continue to choose it over work,” said Michael Tanner, senior policy analyst and co-author of the study. The study is an updated version of one Tanner put out in 1995 that estimated the full value of welfare benefits packages across the states. The 1995 study found that such tax-free welfare benefits greatly exceeded the poverty level and “their dollar value was greater than the amount of take-home income a worker would receive from an entry-level job.” dailycaller

"Did you ask yourself why they picked $15/Hr?"

Probably when one takes into consideration of inflation and other cost of living increases, that would be just about right.

thegreek

Did you ask yourself why they picked $15/Hr ???? Because it has been calculated that is equivelent to what one can receive by STAYING HOME ON WELFARE in like 33 states.... Which by the way - is EXACTLY WHAT MITT ROMNEY SAID AND ALL THE DEMS CRUCIFIED HIM !!! The libs have really opened up a can of worms by encouraging them to depend on the gov programs and big bro will provide !!! There is no easy way outta this mess created by vote buying politicians !!! Guess Barry gets the blame and can suffer for this mistake !!!

If one believes that the min wage should be increased, then yes...it could be said they are being taken advantage of. Especially in an economy that isn't exactly ripe with well paying jobs.

Posted 47 days ago.

BeRight

Take advantage of? I have never seen a McDonald employee, Wal-Mart Employee or even a Burger King employee force to work through the bag door by gunpoint.

I have been also told by reliable sources that you actually have to apply for jobs at these places and, and, and they tell you upfront how much you make before you start!! Can you believe that?

The way it is being reported it sounds like they don't know this going in.

Kendall78

Let's keep in mind that min. wage has not kept up with inflation. So while the average Mcworker doesn't deserve an increase to $15, they probably should be getting at least a few dollars more than they do get.

Ohwiseone

Can you say that even at that rate they still cant live on their own !

Posted 47 days ago.

Ohwiseone

Ah yes the El Lardass effect ! No#1 I don't know about you but IF they get a raise I doubt it will be but a few pennies ! No#2 At that rate it will be a long time till 22 dollars an hour !And some McDonalds in Columbus already pay their employees around 15 dollars an hour plus benefits !That's what happens when they run out of people to take advantage of , nobody wants to work there !

Posted 47 days ago.

BeRight

Ohwiseone: who is to say that $15 dollars is the magic number? remember, if you start at $15 per hour and get raises every year, $22 is not that far off. Would you sing Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions – on a sesame seed bun for $22 an hour and clean the bathrooms?

Posted 47 days ago.

BeRight

Bingo! They people who are picketing may no longer be the BEST people to choose from. Right now they are the people willing to work for $8 an hour. If the price goes up they may be out of a job as a more qualified (SMARTER) shows up for work. This whole thing is so short sighted.

Kendall78

@Beright- an increase in wage (it won't happen like they want it but let's ignore that for a moment) would make the companies more picky with whom they hire. If they get more picky with the quality of workers, then their should be an increase in quality with the product from at least a serving standpoint.

Posted 47 days ago.

Ohwiseone

Nowhere have they said they want 22 dollars an hour ! That's a petty big jump even for a brainwashed republican !

Posted 47 days ago.

BeRight

$22 per hour for making your Big Mac sounds about right.

It takes the same skill to remember Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions – on a sesame seed bun as it does to weld, wouldn't you say?

Ohwiseone

Somewhere , somehow we have to be able to get a wage that a person can live on !The way the republicans are obstructing our economy there is no place left for these workers to go !What they want is indentured Servants ! Reagun started this "new world order " crap and it wasn't to bring the rest of the world up to our standard of living but to bring ours down to third world levels !
