A new documentary film, "Looking for Superman" suggests that American education is severly flawed. Is this view justified?

As a former history teacher, I believe that the majority of today's public issues are rooted in the quality - or lack thereof - of American education. Never in my own memory have I noticed so many students (and adults) who are so uninformed about even the most basic facts of history, civics, geography ... Recent studies suggest that U.S. schools rank well below other nations in the disciplines of math and science ... "Waiting for Superman" (which needs to be shown locally) says that the "blame" or "responsibility" for this sad state of affairs rests upon several factors - i.e. the distractions of TV and computer games; teachers' unions that support "tenure" for some incompetent teachers; uncaring parents; "pressure groups" that demonize public education to promote private, sectarian schools; politicians who burden schools with "unfunded mandates" like "No Child Left Behind" ... Or is it "all of the above"

No matter how much you deflect and lie wrongriki the ultimate fact will remain ! Working folk make their own personal CHOICE when they CHOOSE to either work at a union shop or CHOOSE to work at a non union shop ! THEY MAKE THEIR CHOICE !!

Heres the true hypocrite , wrongriki says workers have no CHOICE whether to work at a union shop or not ! Now when ever a worker either CHOOSES to work union ore CHOOSES to work non union what is that ? Its Called a CHOICE ! No one is forced to work in a union shop , they have options !

“From the east coast to the west, labor is agreeing to costly “sin taxes” under the guise of workplace “wellness” programs.”

“A cent-per-ounce tax on soda will look like small change in comparison. So wouldn’t it be better for labor to address the obesity problem—its own and the nation’s— before it produces another wave of collective bargaining defeat?”
