A new documentary film, "Looking for Superman" suggests that American education is severly flawed. Is this view justified?

As a former history teacher, I believe that the majority of today's public issues are rooted in the quality - or lack thereof - of American education. Never in my own memory have I noticed so many students (and adults) who are so uninformed about even the most basic facts of history, civics, geography ... Recent studies suggest that U.S. schools rank well below other nations in the disciplines of math and science ... "Waiting for Superman" (which needs to be shown locally) says that the "blame" or "responsibility" for this sad state of affairs rests upon several factors - i.e. the distractions of TV and computer games; teachers' unions that support "tenure" for some incompetent teachers; uncaring parents; "pressure groups" that demonize public education to promote private, sectarian schools; politicians who burden schools with "unfunded mandates" like "No Child Left Behind" ... Or is it "all of the above"

Well for a welfare addicted republican parrot , regular people would think that you would be grateful for the rights and dignity afforded all workers by the efforts of unions and their members ! But your constanrt denial of FACTS comes as NO SURPRISE since you have never had a job much less a union job ! Most would think that you, being supported by the taxes of hard working people would at least acknowledge that unions have benefited all labor ! To be so unthankful is truely a republican trait !"we are ohio".co m

“The state and union "have structured employee choice on union fee payments in such a way as to make it more difficult for employees to retain their political autonomy than it is for employees to forfeit their money to the union for its political purposes," the lawsuit states. "They do this by setting the 'default' as public employees' support for union political, ideological, and other non-bargaining activities, as opposed to their not wanting to support such activities." ”

Hmmmmm, seems to me that since workers already CHOOSE whether to work in a union shop or not , that their right to CHOICE is meet !Now since thats the main crux of wrongrikis workplace freedom bullshi^ that this makes its whole arguement moot ! Now what else do you want to be debunked about ??? Theres your valid rebuttal ! And dum-dum , if you had ever worked you would know that once retired ex-workers dont pay dues ! But you wont learn that collecting welfare and foodstamps !
