A new documentary film, "Looking for Superman" suggests that American education is severly flawed. Is this view justified?

As a former history teacher, I believe that the majority of today's public issues are rooted in the quality - or lack thereof - of American education. Never in my own memory have I noticed so many students (and adults) who are so uninformed about even the most basic facts of history, civics, geography ... Recent studies suggest that U.S. schools rank well below other nations in the disciplines of math and science ... "Waiting for Superman" (which needs to be shown locally) says that the "blame" or "responsibility" for this sad state of affairs rests upon several factors - i.e. the distractions of TV and computer games; teachers' unions that support "tenure" for some incompetent teachers; uncaring parents; "pressure groups" that demonize public education to promote private, sectarian schools; politicians who burden schools with "unfunded mandates" like "No Child Left Behind" ... Or is it "all of the above"

Ahh! . . . YES . . . On the bright side maybe, the OHIO WORKPLACE FREEDOM AMENDMENT will change the make-up of the rules governing compulsory union dues and fees and make the Union Bosses earn their pay through merit and not by force.

When the 60+ year old long-time retired DUES EXEMPT union member with nepotistic connection to a NEA/OEA Union Fat Cat does not know any facts, he has to make things up.

On the “Marietta Times” homepage the topic "A new documentary film, "Waiting for Superman" suggests that American education is severely flawed. Is this view justified?" is listed as # 3 in the “Most Popular Topics” section.

This is made possible by the obsessive-compulsive repetitive CUT & PASTE immature name-calling rants of Munster.

“The legislation would require union members to sign two separate authorization forms every 12 months. One would allow fees associated with the collective bargaining process to be deducted and the other would allow payments for the union’s political operations. The bill specifies that the forms must be in bold-face, size 14 type and must be retained by the union.”
