In order to do their job well they must be equipped with the knowledge to negotiate for the body of the union ! I don't know about the Know Nothing Expert but I prefer to have a person working on my behalf that is respected and knows what their doing ! The whole of your arguement is that people dont have a choice RIGHT ?Well seems to me that if a person either chooses to work at A: a union shop or B: a non-union shop they are making a conscience choice !
