A new documentary film, "Looking for Superman" suggests that American education is severly flawed. Is this view justified?

As a former history teacher, I believe that the majority of today's public issues are rooted in the quality - or lack thereof - of American education. Never in my own memory have I noticed so many students (and adults) who are so uninformed about even the most basic facts of history, civics, geography ... Recent studies suggest that U.S. schools rank well below other nations in the disciplines of math and science ... "Waiting for Superman" (which needs to be shown locally) says that the "blame" or "responsibility" for this sad state of affairs rests upon several factors - i.e. the distractions of TV and computer games; teachers' unions that support "tenure" for some incompetent teachers; uncaring parents; "pressure groups" that demonize public education to promote private, sectarian schools; politicians who burden schools with "unfunded mandates" like "No Child Left Behind" ... Or is it "all of the above"

Munster, my man, you diminish your credibility when you constantly resort to name-calling, insults and making wild claims about others.

Here I will tell this right – scrappile seems to be a childish union fat cat sympathizer addicted to posting personal attacks on these forums. When confronted with logic and truth, scrappile resorts to things like name-calling, insults and making wild claims about other posters, who scrappile does not know at all in hopes to divert and deflect from the logic and truth posted by others.

It is the unelected Union Representatives falsely claiming to represent today’s workers. What are the Union Dictators supposed to do give the workers a choice? Many Union Fat Cats are holding the workers hostage with “exclusive representation” laws like ORC 4117.04. You would not want to give the workers a choice of representing themselves or choosing another Union Representative, would you?

To be so anti-freedom and anti-worker is just so socialist. For the life of me, I cannot fathom how a retired “dues exempt” union member can harbor such hate against the Ohio Workplace Freedom Amendment. The indentured servitude of compulsory union laws is not democracy it is slavery . . .

No #1 Munster is a retired ‘dues exempt’ childlike union lackey. No#2 Munster supports NEA Union Fat Cat because he gets to freeload. No # 3 FACT is the NEA Union Fat Cats DO NOT take concessions but the workers do. No#4 The Ohio Workplace Freedom Amendment is not very good for NEA Union Fat Cats because it will jeopardize their ability to freeload like Munster.

We know the characters fighting against the Ohio Workplace Freedom Amendment and we know their motives, what some may not understand is why Munster wants to back these NEA Union Fat Cats, while wearing a paper hat and asking "Do you want more contract concessions with that?" Don’t you think those NEA Union Fat Cats have enough wealth and power, apparently not, why else would you be a Pollyanna for NEA Union Fat Cats.
