Do costly TV ads for presidential candidates really influence voter opinions? If they do, which of the two candidate's ads are most effectuve?

... Being an unapoligetic supporter of President Obama, I'd say that the most effective thus far is the Obama TV ad where Mitt (badly) sings "America the Beautiful" in the background, while the effects of Bain job outsourcing and Romney's offshore accounts are depicted ... But, I'd say the most effective Romney ad would be the one where Obama is shown looking sad, and the punch-line is "It's okay to vote for a change" ... Of course (in my somewhat partisan view) it could be said that effective CHANGE that would help America's middle-class would be more likely if Romney were defeated in the fall, and obstructionists like Boehner and Cantor who resist change and favor the rich over the middle class were kicked out on their butts! But are ANY of these ads worth what it costs to put them on TV 24/7?
