Qualified Dividends Qualified dividends are the ordinary dividends subject to the same 0% or 15% maximum tax rate that applies to net capital gain. They should be shown in box 1b of the Form 1099-DIV you receive.

Qualified dividends are subject to the 15% rate if the regular tax rate that would apply is 25% or higher. If the regular tax rate that would apply is lower than 25%, qualified dividends are subject to the 0% rate.

To qualify for the 0% or 15% maximum rate, all of the following requirements must be met.

•The dividends must have been paid by a U.S. corporation or a qualified foreign corporation. (See Qualified foreign corporation , later.)

•The dividends are not of the type listed later under Dividends that are not qualified dividends .

•You meet the holding period Source : IRS

1 in 5 (20%) of the 47% who pay no federal income taxes are citizens who are disabled, you know blind, cerebral palsy, a 4 year old needing a heart and lung transplant, check out letters to Autumn, and senior citizens whom spent a lifetime paying payroll taxes, and of course 37 of the largest corporations in the U.S., who pay no income taxes, and an effective corporate tax rate of 0%, fair share, corporate taxes on these 37 "citizens", were 1.16% of GDP, historic lows, wonder why so few at the top pay so much in federal income taxes, because that is where the concentration of wealth is, hence the wealth gap is growing.

Here is the truth: that 10% of top wage earners pay 71% of all income taxes being paid. The top 25% pay 87% of all income taxes paid.

Talk in your ying yand circles all you want.

What is your problem with these numbers? Is it that you don't pay taxes and are part of the 47%?

beright, he still thinks the middle-class and the poor float the country when it comes to federal taxes. he laughs in the face of inconvenient facts. to discuss this topic with him is a complete waste of time. as much i do not always agree with the political slant taken by some reporting agencies, it does not detract from a fact being a fact......unless the facts are cherry-picked.

The CBO is putting out the same numbers. Why are you have suching a hard time getting a grip on this matter?

Kiplinger reports that 10% of top wage earners pay 71% of all income taxes being paid. The top 25% pay 87% of all income taxes paid.

The top 10 percent of taxpayers paid more than 70 percent of the total income tax revenue collected in 2010.

The information is accurate. Deal with the information , not the source.

BeRight

The top 10 percent of taxpayers paid more than 70 percent of the total income tax revenue collected in 2010, according to research from the D.C.-based Tax Foundation. “That’s up from 55% in 1986,”

munster, buffet knew full well what he was doing when he took out that ad. the real question is why did he not increase her salary and allow her the use of his accountants? this would allow her to enjoy her increase in salary and avoid the burdensome taxes that are geared toward punishment rather than equity. never thought of that one for old man buffet did ya? don't feel bad, your compadres on your liberal squawk shows didn't either. i guess he did not wish her to be too patriotic....another load of crap that was being peddled by your leaders!

By the way, I think Warren dropped down a few spots to 4 or 5.

BeRight

Nice try on Warren's secretary. You and I both know that is not what he said. And you talk about miss quoting and taking things out of context? What a joke.

BeRight, don't bother him with those trivial facts. it doesn't fit the talking points. make sure to mention that those apply to federal taxes...just in case you have pit-nickers.

BeRight

The CBO has reported that the top 20% of wage earners pay 72% of all income taxes. The Middle 20% pay 8.9% of all taxes. Lots of people are not paying their fair share. The bottom 20% get cash back every year. So there really is a 47%.

There are some that deny workers have a choice when they can choose either to work at a union shop or work at a non-union shop ! How stupid is that ??

A call center to open this month in central Ohio will pair low-income veterans, active military personnel and their families who can't afford attorneys with volunteer lawyers providing free representation in non-criminal cases. It's part of what legal experts and others say it a growing effort across the United States to meet the legal needs of those who have served their country, including programs in Maine, Georgia and Oklahoma.
