Religious Ignorance in the US

Recently we have had letters sent to the editor that have used incorrect quotes from our Founding Fathers on the subject of religion. Are people so lazy that they cannot see that the quotea are wrong? The USA was NOT founded on Christianity; Christians merely make up the majority of the population.

Was Louisiana last year and I think Mississippi in there some where so it is not new. Would there be concern if they made the Koran their Official State Book ?? I think that is their fear. That some group will request some other wierd book as official and they will be made out to be discrimminitory if they oppose it.. You are familiar with that thought. If one does not embrace the feeling then the only answer is one must be a bigot !!

As long as we can keep it, however the left wing socialist don't seem to like it much

And that's exactly why we don't have one but rather a republic!

i think it helps maintain a sense of difference or uniqueness to the state(s) in question. i do think it spotlights the "good" differences in the varied qualities of what comprises our united states. perhaps we should celebrate some resemblance of independence within the quickly all encompassing federal government takeover....by our hands no less. if getting everyone to agree on a book is this difficult...how could anyone with any sense want a true democracy???? sheer lunacy.

Why the he77 does a state have to have an official book, tree or bird??? Seems pretty superfluous

NCN...i am assuming that from your post that you did not think it was a good idea either....just to be accurate.

Stillhere, thank you for seeing my point. i would agree with you and NCN that it would not be a good idea in that the "state book" should represent everybody. there should be a more appropriate selection based on a quality that bolsters state pride IMO.

Your point taken, However those that constantly scream about "separation of church and state"(yeah I know it doesn't say that) will actually have a pretty valid point on this one IMO

why the concern???? it's just a book right??? besides, it's not like anybody uses it when they take an oath of office...geesh.

Yeah I am not getting the bible being the official state book thing, to me that actually IS a violation of the "state shall adopt an official religion prohibition". Wouldn't support that if I lived there

The Bible will not become the official book of Tennessee this year.

the fact that these legislators came up with this 'idea' in 2015 is kind of scary...

Judging from an earlier pic for Ron Paul I am guessing it is real for now. LOL. Unless Mrs Paul is thinning.
