“The leftist pretense of concern for the well-being of black people confers upon them an aura of moral superiority and, as such, gives more credibility to their calls for increasing government control over our lives.”

I just remembered reading their population wasn't all that large.
I stand corrected, needed to read up some more on it! I had just read up on its current state and military abilities:
"“Without Ukraine, Russia ceases to be a Eurasian empire,” the American political scientist Zbigniew Brzezinski wrote in 1998. Russian President Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine to join his Eurasian Union trade bloc, not the European Union. Russia’s Black Sea naval fleet is headquartered in Sevastopol, a formerly Russian city that now belongs to Ukraine. Last year Russia’s state-controlled Gazprom (OGZPY) sold about 160 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe—a quarter of European demand—and half of that traveled through a maze of Ukrainian pipelines. Those pipelines also supply Ukrainian factories that produce steel, petrochemicals, and other industrial goods for sale to Mother Russia. “Ukraine is probably more integrated than any other former Soviet republic with the Russian economy,”
"Are you sure it was the Ukraine? Its a relatively small country with a horrible military."
It's not quite that small. It's bigger than Germany or France. It also the third largest grain exporter in the world.
I would say that Ukraine would be to Russia what Egypt was to the Roman Empire.
from CNN: "Russia supplies about 25% of Europe's gas needs, and half of that is pumped via pipelines running through Ukraine." " Ukraine is one of the world's top exporters of corn and wheat, and prices could rise even on concern those exports could halt." not to mention the financial impact to the world economy.
Maybe because of the port. I am not sure.
Are you sure it was the Ukraine? Its a relatively small country with a horrible military.
Someone said today on CNN that Russia would not be a super power without the Ukraine.
Reading up on the Ukraine thing, its hard to not maybe think Putin has let his power go to his head.
The Kremlin’s own pollster released a survey on Monday that showed 73% of Russians reject it, which is kinda astounding considering how much the Russian people seem to be controlled by their government. Its killing their economy. And even its closest ally has spoken out against it.
There just doesn't seem to be a reason for this other than ego and a big middle finger to us.
LTS, I need to read up on Waco again, to be honest I was more concerned with chasing tail than politics when that happened!
asknot, you may wish to rethink your impossible. while there is no pathway for leaving the uniion in the constitution, there have been at least 3 states that have sent a petition just to do that. now if we consider what happened in Waco to be an example at what length our Federal Government will do to it's citizens should they think they are even slightly independent, how measured would the response be if a state the size of texas did leave. i think you would see a rather quick military response within minutes and not hours. that is what i believe. those that protect us have the power to control us.
LTS, it seems Putins "concerns" about his people being in danger are definitely not the reason this is happening or the impending escalations! The Ukraine and it's apparent lack of a military are certainly no threat. It seems to me like this is just Putin attempting to draw his own line in the sand and seeing how far it'll go.
Not sure I really agree with ya about our own states being threatened for wanting to secede, as it's almost impossible in the constitution, but let's hope we don't find out.
asknot, frankly at this point in time i am not certain that the President could or would do much more than what we are witnessing. Russia, like ourselves have the right to protect their assets around the world. this incursion does not wholly seem to fit that description. i think it has been a thorn in their sides ever since the break-up of the Soviet Union. i also firmly believe that should any States decide to leave our Union, you would see the same feelings expressed and probably a quick military response against our own people. i read where some have labeled this the "Pink-Line" moment for the president. he as well as the country seems to have placed themselves in a rather gnarly situtaion. this like the Syria is really out of his hands and his league. Perhaps Ambassador Rice could lend Putin a hand in the P.R. Department....it worked well here.
LTS, this Putin thing seems to be getting out of hand! Ugh, I'll give you that Obama has kinda let Putins balls drop if ya will and embolden him lately(backing down on the missile defense shield, Syria and Iran) and then doing nothing!
"Postal Press Association" that kind of speaks for itself doesn't it?
