@Greekster - Don't you rightwing folks always claim that the President needs to uphold The U.S. Constitution? The Constitution says that only "Congress shall have the power to declare war"! So, he left the decision to Congress (but he could legally take action under the "War Powers Act" if he could prove that Assad poses an international threat beyond his borders ... Just because the guys that YOU probably supported (Nixon? Reagan? Bush #43?) didn't care about The Constitution, doesn't mean that Obama should repeat their blunders ... If Obama would do nothing, you jerks would call him a "wimp". If he takes any kind of action, you'll want him impeached. It's a no-win situation. I still respect the President, but the REAL lessons of history (not the fake junk you righties get from Beck & Huckabee) says it's a slippery slope ... Let Israel and the Saudis take on Assad!
WRONG answer Oneill. You suggest they read a book on how to fight this war ???? OMG...Remember Kerry and Barry are lobbying to fire a shot over the bow of Syria... This is your parties chance to shine or own another war !!!
What do you suggest your beloved Barry do Oneill????????? Here is your chance to shine since you have been giving ole d u m b a s $ Cheney and Bush h e l l all this time. It is the dems turn for some no win situational WAR !!!
Sword" by Barbara Tuchman (better known for "The Guns of August" which told about Sarajevo and how W.W.I started), "Warriors of God" by James Reston Jr. (the first part of that book was adapted into the Ridley Scott film, "Kingdonm of Heaven") or "Rats, Lice, and History" by Hans Zinsser ... "A little learning is a dangerous thing" - especially so for the dimwits who only pick up their historical insight from the likes of Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly! ... Obama's "legacy" will be fine if only he avoids LBJ's quagmire!
Oneill, your Dem. guys are about to be suckered into a war too so I would be cautious what you say. Barry don't know what to do so he turned it over to congress cause he ran on a no more war platform. It IS rather tough to see the pictures and hear Feinstein saying "people that vote NO have not seen the evidence that I have seen". It may just turn out to be more than a dumb republican hair brained move as you like to assess at!!!Russia has 2 destroyers in the area and their guns aint trained on Syria, they are trained on US...If/when we arrive, it may be an ambush !!!
Not only are folks thinking about the Bush/Cheney con job re. Iraq, they (at least the ones who don't suffer from long-term memory lapse)are thinking about LBJ and the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. Johnson wanted to be remembered as the President who sponsored the Civil Rights Act and won the "War on Poverty". He listened to Robert MacNamara and McGeorge Bundy and became the subject of lines like "Hey, hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?" ... On a lighter note, I see that "Eric the Red (Baiter)" is at it again in today's TIMES - as usual, he confuses "common-sense" with "communism"> Oooh! Be vewwy afwaid! No, the "Tatars" did not cause the "Black Death" (it was brought to Europe after 1300 by fleas who lived on rats aboard all ships coming from the east - including the ones carrying homecoming Crusaders), nor was "Progressive" President Teddy Roosevelt a "commie"! Read "Bible and Swor
and review the iraq operation from the beginning you will find that Saddam acted in much the same way as Assad and the intelligence community of many nations agreed. vast one-world conspiracy???? possibly or as now an proof-positive indicator of the ineffectiveness of the United Nations and many of its member nations.
moderation, without the ability to have accurate reporting on the ground in Syria, we are left to rely on less than reliable information regarding the actual guilty party. this observation is based on the number of news outlets that have stated such. your characterization of the apparent reversal in opinion of teabag/republicans based on political ideology may be valid, or could indicate a new way of thinking in regards to national threats verses the worlds police force point of view. one early report, which i believe still holds true, is that the Saudi's announced that they would cover all costs with the military intervention in Syria. on one hand this does eliminate one con argument against entering the conflict, but it also indicates that we can be bought as the worlds "gun-for-hire". that may be the case in all of our recent interventions, but this leaves no doubt as to our including the title of middle-east prostitute in our legacy. however, i do think if you go back an
The The Louisiana Purchase ?
Don't forget the last time this administration could not find votes for something unpopular. Remember the “Cornhusker Kickback"?
What would the payoff be for party loyalty on bombing Syria?
Congress, what do you do if somebody offers you to vote on Syria?
Well, you just say NO.

greek- sure it matters what you think.and you have the right to verbalize it as well. a point I would make is that if any country such as Syria would use chemical weapons on their population, how responsible could they be with a nuclear capability? radiation is the weapon that keeps on giving.
Most of our enemies already have nukes. What difference does it make. Keeps everyone honest. Besides, it doesn't matter too much what a peon like me thinks, does it. They use it on us, we punish them back.
How do you feel about (insert country name here) having a nuclear capability?

How do you feel about Iran having a nuclear capability, greek?
The only thing that will happen if the US fires a shot across the bow of Syria is that both sides will hate us instead of just 1. I say let the worthless UN deal with it. Them people over there have been fighting each other for centuries and we are not gonna make a difference in a positive way. We will only make it worse, no matter what anyone thinks or says. !! You would think we would have learned that by now, after Iraq and Afghanistan !! Pass me some popcorn and lets be spectators in this "cage match".

Obama finding little support for bombing
Parkersburg News and Sentinel
Someone one the pn&s thread suggested that Barry had somehow influenced the tea party/republicans to oppose war, and seemingly overnight.how convenient is that modified stance on the Syrian issue?
lts- no it would not be because he "is my guy". Do you think the intelligence around the origin of the launches could be wrong?
after reading post to valveguy, may i clarify that my use of susan or hillary was only to be taken as "fall-girls" for his ultimate failure. john kerry, is the point-man for this juggernaut. neither of these were intended to assign influence. they are merely loyal minions for the harborer of inexperience and poor decision making.
