Racial Group Guilt

This is just to gauge how you feel about racial group guilt when it comes to politics and cultural topics. Has the media or any organization ever made you feel that you couldn't debate about the topic of race because of the specific race you belong to?

NasCarNut...as you know people vote for many varied reasons. to try and label those that woted for or against based on race are no different in nature. as bad as it sounds the term "token" comes to mind when one considers that his much ballyhooed candidacy and subsequent win was celebrated based on his skin color. the ones for and against are no different. i hope that you will be honest enough to admit that he is bi-racial and that only one of his parental genetic attributes have been hoisted upon the flagpole that simply became the soup dejour. i fear that our next president will fall into the same catagory as "fad" for many of those in the voting public.

Stillhere - I think ohwiseone understands that. He, for whatever reason, likes to argue from a point that is illogical at best.

On the other hand, I KNOW Obama understands it. He is playing a No More Mister Nice Guy game from the WH with our political landscape, trying to do as much damage as he can with a limited amount of time to do it in. That, I believe, is his motivation to ballyhoo about matters he wants to shove down our throats with rhetorical promotion of "We can't wait" and "It's the right thing to do".

I still believe the guy has a deep-set ambition to see that he is not displaced from power, at least by the conventional means of succession, come January 2017.

He likes his power and flaunting of undue Executive power too much not consider using societal chaos to remain in power. Even IF that chaos has to be artificially induced (IMO).

s it turns out, Republican majorities voted seven times to raise the debt ceiling under President Bush and the current GOP leadership team voted a combined 19 times to bump the debt limit $4 trillion during his tenure. (That vote tally included a "clean" debt ceiling increase in 2004, backed by 98 current House Republicans and 31 sitting GOP Senators.)

Of course, they had to. After all, the two unfunded wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the budget-busting Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 (the first war-time tax cut in modern U.S. history) and the Medicare prescription drug program drained the U.S. Treasury. Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and Eric Cantor voted for all of it.

The political scientist Barbara Sinclair has done the math. In the 1960s, she finds, "extended-debate-related problems" -- threatened or actual filibusters -- affected only 8 percent of major legislation. By the 1980s, that had risen to 27 percent. But after Democrats retook control of Congress in 2006 and Republicans found themselves in the minority, it soared to 70 percent.

As even Robert Samuelson (no friend of Democrats) acknowledged, "From 2003 to 2006, when Republicans controlled the Senate, they filed cloture 130 times to break Democratic filibusters. Since 2007, when Democrats took charge, they've filed 257 cloture motions." The Senate's own records reveal obstructionism is the new normal for Republicans.

OWO... can you say filibuster??? The Democrats can...self-interest at work... or their favorite tactic of walking out and running back into their rabbit hole....out of state btw. Both sides try to hamper or prevent the other from acting contrary to their beliefs.

beright. good point and one that should have got equal billing in the "touchy-feely" discussions of race that we have seen taken place under the guise of "healing". not many have pointed out that the white side of obama was not given equal billing in the love-fest that was Obama. they said well...he looks more afrcan-american than white so based on appearance (thought we wern't supposed to do that) they...with much fanafre declared the first african-american president. either way...it is what it is and just like the american people michelle will be rid of his arse and his shenanigans at roughly the same time.

OWO...it the democrats did not vote, present and pass legislation that did not serve their own interests then why not just call them republicans or even libitarians. we are all selfish in what we want whether it seems to serve the general popualtion or just our own desires. it is not just a republicans and that is a fact of life. if a happy accident of the aligning of the stars happens to benefit all then great...but i hesitate to say that you would gladly put away your self-interest for mine. we all tend to be selfish unless we are giving away or taking other from others without value in return or based on a mutually agreed to arrangement. bottom line...we are all selfish to a degree. even you most OWISEONE...but if you were truly wise you would know that.

absolem: The left finds it hard to believe that you can disagree or dislike a president solely based on his politics or policies. I guess the left hated Bush because he was a white man from Texas.

ohnotwiseone, oh man, your either dumber than a day old islamic terrorist or you suffer from cranial rectal inversion. The only obstructing going on has been by the demokrat party for the last 6 years. They threw aside over 300 bills sent to the senate and just ignored them.

Just so some our sensitive readers don't get too riled up, please note that I could care less what race our leaders are as long as they represent my interests. Selfish..absolutely. I have always found it to be a profound head-shaking moment when those that profess color blindness point out both pro and con based on...drum roll please..color or race. A truly stand out moment of stupidity..but a network and a racist organization proudly depend on it for their existence.

Accolades to a few of the recent commentators here.

The title of the forum being "Racial Group Guilt", I've frequently wondered to what degree we could assign the two successful runs for president by our nation's first half-black president to white guilt.

Well, Baby, during his second term he has done his utmost (from a legal prospective) to help us get over that self-inflicted affliction.

Ohwiseone...very well put. i think we can scrounge up a brand new pair of those air jordans...now they might have a few shards of glass in them and won't exactly be the correct size but hey they will be free. oh and i forgot to mention they may be a little damp from where they were retrieved from the overhead power lines after a steady rain. i would not suggest wearing them in the 'hood from which they came...to them it's like stealing a city limit marker.

I will. I will just ovoid those neighborhoods.

And what exactly will I find out? Maybe they are the entitled 47%?

You have gangs in Chicago and LA that kill other gang members simply because they turned down the wrong street.

Hundred of Black on Black murders happened every year but they burn down Ferguson based on word of mouth rumors?
