Does the current urge to "privatize" all government services lead to laxity in background checks of those working for private government contractors?
Many are asking how the Navy Yard shooter - a person who had a record of mental illness, "blackouts", and anger-management issues - gained access to a government facility ... A few months back, we asked similar questions about Edward Snowden. Congress and many state governments have cut back on the hiring of government employees. Allegedly to "save $$$" (but really to help their friends in the private sector) members of Congress and governors (like our own beloved Ka$ich) have been passing out contracts to private companies that do not always follow rules ... These outfits make a LOT of $$$. Shouldn't they therefore be required to be more careful about the people they hire?
