Legalize Marijuana in Ohio?

In light of some recent and not so recent events, do you believe that marijuana SHOULD become a legal substance in the state of Ohio? I'm posting this under "National Politics" because I believe your answer transcends Ohio's borders.

asknot... good morning. government santioned availability will increase the consumption and will streamline the introduction to a whole new clientele. if you have been reading much about Amsterdam and it's experiment in the lagalization of cannibus, you will find that they have pigeon-holed it's use due to the ill-effects it had on its society. the one thing that BobBarker stated correctly in a post was about we not learning from past mistakes. i tend to believe that every few generations you will have people attempt social experiments that have failed in the past with the only difference being their belief that it only failed because it was not them that tried to accomplish the failed feat. this will be one of those moments along with several others.

asknot...you are correct. we will see how this all shakes out. just remember though that if it doesn't...it will be most difficult to put the "Puff back in the Dragon".

asknot, if marijuana becomes legal in Ohio i certainly hope a large portion of the tax-revenue is set aside for the unpleasant and inevitable problems that are going to multiply themselves in your state. many of those problems will be an increase in traffic related incidents, medically-related issues(both short and long-term), an increase in the illegal distribution network, spill-over problems to your bordering states that do not have the benefit of your tax revenue. once the government decides to say something is o.k., they assume the responsibility for the liabilities. that means each and every taxpayer in your state will be saddled with the burden of the problems associated with the decision to legalize an intoxicating substance for the sake of the almighty dollar.

In 1975, Ohio made possession and cultivation of less than 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of cannabis and a gift of 20 grams (0.7 ounces) or less of cannabis a minor misdemeanor (same class as minor traffic violations) punishable by a $150 fine, a 6 month to 5 year drivers license suspension and a suspension of any professional licenses. According to the Ohio Revised Code, possession of less than 100 grams is only a minor misdemeanor, possession of drug paraphernalia, which may include a bowl or bong , is also a minor misdemeanor prosecuted now only by a fine as of September 28, 2012. Trafficking cannabis is a felony.

here's one for you asknot: "A business-savvy Girl Scout sold 117 boxes of cookies in less than two hours outside a marijuana clinic in San Francisco last week, according to multiple media reports." side story....."Brownies did not show up for fear of being eaten. Parents relieved."

asknot, florida actually had a python hunt fairly recently. i think it is a great idea. they are not a natural reptile and think of all of the neat snakeskin products and meat that could be garnered through a culling of the snakes. a few python guitar straps, some boots and maybe a purse for the wife would be great. i really like the beautiful lime green snakes we have, although they are not large enough to do much of anything with other than just admire.

"Three people were arrested Tuesday after deputies found two frozen alligators, an illegal fish, a marijuana plant and hundreds of grams of methamphetamine inside a Florida house." just think of the embarressment they could have avoided if they only lived in a pot-friendly state. oh wait...you can smoke it, eat it, and enema it if you like...but you can't grow it??? what's up with that. oh i see. tax-man wants his cut for the right to "F" yourself up. neat concept.

Actually it was not the Wall Street Journal that he said that to in an interview and it was not two weeks ago either, it was The New Yorker and the interview was done "On the Sunday afternoon before Thanksgiving" according to the article. In this interview Mr. Obama said "As has been well documented, I smoked pot as a kid, and I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from the cigarettes that I smoked as a young person up through a big chunk of my adult life. I don’t think it is more dangerous than alcohol." and "in terms of its impact on the individual consumer. It’s not something I encourage, and I’ve told my daughters I think it’s a bad idea, a waste of time, not very healthy."
