Forgetting history, a sin of the Republic

I was reading about the difficulty of Pres. Obama's pick getting the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division top position. His name is Debo Adegbile and the main criticism is that as a lawyer he defended a cop killer. Did Congress forget that everyone is entitled to a defense?

BobBarker, i would say this would be an opportune time to show everyone what kind of person you really are. show me in the reply to fred where i said anyone here was evil because they don't believe as i do, issue an apology or remain silent. your choice.

BobBarker...you make it really hard to have rational conversations, with the lone exception of our common interest guitars and associated equipment. i will apologize immediately for the pulling your head out of your arse comment...but jeesh i did not do what you accused me of doing. that was unfair and way off base. i was presenting what the scriptures said to me in the context of the biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah. i expressed in no way whether you or anyone else on here was evil. i'll await your apology.

BobBarker...that popping sound must be you pulling your head out of your arse. ask fred...he brought it up. i said he did and was only responding to him. there is no inference about you or anyone else here being evil because of my beliefs. are you sure you are o.k. mentally? ask yourself..if you answer yes...immediately seek help.

fred...you may wish to read genisis chapter 18 verse 20 for yourself. the sins of the people pre-dated the visit by the angels. the lord destroyed the city due to the rampant wickeness. you may also refer to jude chapter 1 verse7 in the new testament as support. once you read the 18th and 19th chapter of genesis i think you will realize that the theologians that you quoted must have missed the outcry of the wickedness to god and mis-directed you to the treatment of strangers. the strangers so to speak were described as angels sent by the lord. the people being so consumed in their wickedness that they desired to have their way with them. but ultimately it was, according to scripture, the wickedness and sin that abounded in the city that caused the lord to rain down his justice by destrying the city and its inhabitants.

fred...sometimes it is just as easy to say "thank-you" when being paid a compliment. thank you for your time as time is a most valuable commodity...speaking of which time to walk the dog. i appreciate your satire.

fred and asknot, no sects or denominations. the books of their respective faiths is evidence enough to some of the perceived racist, homophobic or belittling of women as compared to the prevailing social notions of our day. mine was a general observation that apparently is unseen or diminished by some in an effort to feign victimization being deserving of the pass. in the end it is perception, i have presented mine and you have countered that there is not enough in your mind to give my observation validity or reach a level of concern on your part. that sits just fine with me....i don't consider you indifferent so please don't consider me intolerant. i am just a visitor to this world for a short while in the scope of enternity.

should have been"sleight" in that you were correct although "slight" may have been more appropriate. yes, that line came from my mind and no one elses. regarding forgetting history...there is some that should be forgotten and there some that we personally never forgive ourseles for.

good morning gents. i hoope the respite did you all well. fred...i consider the jousting of minds with you to be something to savour as well as a self-punishing badge of honor. my mother always sad not to play with feeble minds...there is not challenge. the beauty of the world is the vastness of unexplored knowledge and discoveries. that is one reason why each day i yearn to learn something new. boredom is a terrible thing. you like i have remained civil and being referred to as a cheesecake could hardly ever be considered abuse. you sometimes make me pause to investigate the people to whom you compare me too. fortunately or unfortunately the quotationless comments are mine and no others. my punctuation irks you and your incessant use of history, literature and silver screen movies to bolster your modern day arguments is tedious at best. the silver-lining in them is the exposure to influences one may not come across in everyday life...and for that thank you. the "slight" sho

asknot, whether they vocalize it or not..it is their belief and it is written in their book of worship. does silence give them a pass? which is more dangerous...the thief that tells you they are going to rob you or the one that stays silent? btw..thanks for understanding and appreciate your viewpoint. it's late and it's time for some shuteye. have a great rest of the night and look forward to doing it again.
