Just because it's illegal to own one doesnt mean there arent those who do RE:( the bank robbers in LA) !It's like fireworks , you can buy them but it's illegal to use them !If you look there are many cut up sub machine guns advertised for parts but a little creative welding and "voila" an llegal firearm !

And owning the right trigger assembly and lower would already be illegal, you'd have to own a lower receiver capable of being a full-auto firearm. The lower is the "serial numbered" portion of such a rifle.

It would be like owning an M-2 Carbine. Owning one, even without the internal parts that actually make the firearm work on "select fire", is illegal. Any serial numbered firearm that wasn't registered as a machine gun before the end date for the 1986 law is illegal if in civilian hands.

When you see a brightly colored vehicle with numbers on it do you assume its a racecar? Look agin it might be a schoolbus or a taxi.

Munster the definition I gave is of an "assault rife" it has been the accepted definition since they were invented over 50 years ago, it describes characteristics and functionality of the item. Yours it the definition of an "assault weapon" as used by politicans since the 1980s to describe semi-autos with accessories that make it look like a milatary rifle. With a loose description like yours all guns could be considered assault weapons.
