Ms. Fenistein's bill would have BANNED the manufacture and sale of over 250 different firearms, It would have BANNED the sale, or transfer, of any of the listed firearms currently in civilian hands. In essence, any current owner of any of these listed firearms wouldn't have even been able to legally transfer them to their heirs. As such, anyone in my family who handled any of my guns that are on the list after my death would be charged with a felony. Even though they would have been forced to turn these guns into the authorities for destruction.

How exactly do you take a gun to the cops for them to destroy it if you're breaking the law to handle it?

You have yet to offer a logical reason why law abiding citizens can't own these guns. Neither have the various anti-gun groups or law makers. An emotional response based on crimes committed by crazy people doesn't count!

You can buy normal military style ammo, and yes, even hollow point ammo. So? Neither style is anywhere near the type of ammo you talked about.

The military isn't allowed to use hollow point ammo, under the Geneva Convention policies. And given that hollow point rounds, of even common ammo like 9 mm, is more than a buck a round.

Lanza didn't use it, neither did the nut job in Colorado. From what I read, they didn't disclose what the crazy dude who shot Gabby Gifford used, but since they didn't attempt to ban hollow point rounds in this latest try at gun control, I'm betting he was using full metal jacketed ammo.

I understand this, neither of the bullet designs you cite have ever been released for the civilian market as surplus. I've shot for the better part of over 50 years and have never seen either. And that counts for the time I was in the Infantry. Where you'll see any type of small arms ammo in common use, and all the various ammo that has been used for the last 40 years or so.

And yes, I'm quite aware of the difference between a "cartridge" and a "bullet." I'm betting you needed to look it up though.

So, since you can't buy this horrible ammo, having a firearm capable of firing it doesn't make much difference. Gun homicides have dropped steeply in the United States since their peak in 1993, a pair of reports released Tuesday showed, adding fuel to Congress' battle over whether to tighten restrictions on firearms.

A study released Tuesday by the government's Bureau of Justice Statistics found that gun-related homicides dropped from 18,253 in 1993 to 11,101 in 2011. That's a 39 percent reduction.

Another report by the private Pew Research Center found a similar decline by looking at the rate of gun homicides, which compares the number of killings to the size of the country's population. It found that the number of gun homicides per 100,000 people fell from 7 in 1993 to 3.6 in 2010, a drop of 49 percent.

Both reports also found the rate of non-fatal crimes involving guns was also down by around 70 percent over that period.

You do understand the difference between a bullet and a cartridge don't you ? Some military ammo is designed to do different things than a standard FMJ bullet ! The Russians has what has been termed the spoon tip bullet that somehow skirts the Geneva convention , and the USA at one time made bullets that had a bubble in the end and both of these caused the bullet to yaw once it encountered flesh ! Making nasty wound cavities !

IF military grade ammo was any different than what is available on the civilian market, you would never see surplus ammo sold there.

But admitting that fact would negate your idiotic argument that a civilian market "AR" clone is somehow more dangerous than a Ruger "Mini-14."
