What your not understanding is any assault rifle doesnt have to be full auto to be an assault rifle ! thats like saying a chevy isnt a chevy because its got a standard transmissiom !

The PTR-93 is not full auto and therfore is not an assault rifle. I'm fully aware of the required license to own an actual assault rifle.

And in case you missed it , you cant sell full auto anything except with a special licence !

How is making it even harder for someone whos squeaky clean to get an already highly regulated item going to stop some nut case from doing something illegal with them when its already illegal for him to have said item? Well I'm familiar with the AR platform and changing the lower reciever is a snap and the trigger assembly is a little more involved but can be done in an afternoon with instructions off the internet !And so yes it's possible and yes there are very few who are able to afford the process to own them legally ! Thats the key word now isnt it !

Munster, While they are not assault weapons in thier factory form ,they can be modified to be turned into assault weapons, but it is expensive, illegal and not as easy as you want to alledge. Its not a matter of taking it out to the workshop and doing some filing. With the AR platform it requires the replacement of the complete lower receiver and many internal parts, the AK has a few less parts to replace but still requires extensive receiver work or replacement. All of these parts are registered and the weapons that they are in are registered and licensed, it is illegal to manufacture new parts or install them in another weapon. It is illegal to possess any of these parts or weapons without a expensive license and a very extensive background check, then there are lots more laws about storage and transportation. You need to be very rich and squeaky clean or you can never own them legally, nut cases usually an'nt squeaky clean.

And yes they can be modified to be fully automatic ! Look no further than the bank robbers in LA who fought off the police with modified AK-47's and body armor ! And we all know exactly how brilliant you are !!

Very few people own "Assault Rifles" free! Lot's of people own the guns you use that term incorrectly in describing them. Unless you are really stupid enough to think that any "AR/AK" platform rifle is capable of fully automatic rate of fire.
