Are the Second Amendment "rights" of Americans really being "threatened" - or is this complaint just another gimmick to get the right-wing, reactionary base "fired up" for 2012?

Well Bob, if you're not going to do it, I guess I'll have to ... Some of today's "pretend patriots" might want to look at what is happening in Egypt ... A real "revolution" isn't pretty ... Some Americans, however, are claiming that President Obama and his administration are "tyrants", and (in the words of failed Nevada Senatorial candidate Sharron Angle) "Second Amendment Solutions" might be needed ... Is she right? Or is she just "right-wing"? Inquiring minds want to know!

... To answer your question: people in urban areas are sick of gun-violence, while people in (or, in your case, from) rural areas romanticize guns and never have to face the consequences of living in an armed camp. I've studied Appalachian culture - and actually lived in a rural area in southern W.Va. - and I know the cultural and historical reasons why rural folks love guns ... I admire a well-made rifle or a historic firearm myself. I know that our forebears depended upon firearms for food and protection, BUT this is a different time from the one that our ancestors lived in and public-safety demands answers to the question neither you nor Wayne LaPierre will answer - i.e. "How many guns do we need?" ... @Stick - On this, I am giving you the benefit-of-the-doubt and presuming that you are not quite as paranoid as the Greek or others who fantasize about some imaginary dystopia where everyone will need to be armed-to-the-teeth to fight against ravaging zombies or crazed dicta

@Stick - The idea of you owning a gun is not "suspect" in my opinion. What is suspect in my opinion are your views that Americans should be allowed to own any kind of gun that you want to own ... Just for the sake of argument, let's say that you are a five-year-old kid (which might not be that far off) living, say, in Kentucky. Should your parents allow you to have a real rifle - say it's called "The Crickett" - and you shoot and kill your little two-year-old sister, but you are, after all, merely exercising your "God-given Second Amendment rights" ... Of course, such a ridiculous notion could only be invented by some evil media person or liberal wannabe gun-snatcher ... IOW, Stick, where do YOUR so-called "rights" end and those of others begin?

Freddie, are you "channeling" free? In a poll, they are asking questions to a representative sample of people from a given area. Not polling MORE people in a rural area. Population of a sample area polled would not be a factor in the results. Since a rural area is populated lighter than urban areas, less people would be polled. The results show rural areas see less need for stricter background checks. Likely because they know there is a system in place, while urban area residents may well have never bought a gun, so would be unaware of the system.

But since we're not prosecuting those who violate the laws by lying on background checks, how would MORE laws for these folks to break help any? How does passing laws only law abiding people would follow help?

Try answering questions asked of you, for once, instead of launching into yet another illogical rant!

So, "comprehensive background checks" prevent criminals from stealing guns and selling them on the black market? All this BS about supposed gun trafficking brings to mind the usual claims about where some folks claim Chicago's crime guns originated. The claim is, from most anywhere than the true source. The vast majority come from Illinois gun shops. But the anti-gun crowd blames it on Indiana's "lax gun policies."

Funny, Freddie mentions the CNBC piece on AR-15's, and cites a Dentist, who isn't a criminal, who shoots as a stress reliever? That's why I said I enjoyed shooting, but somehow my owning a gun is suspect in his opinion? I heard that guy interviewed, he sounds like most folks who shoot at the range where I belong.

But, from what I heard from the guy, he wouldn't agree with the lame idea of storing guns at your gun club. There are secure areas of our range, where they store the firearms in their inventory. The idea of an England style ownership program,

While we're on the subject of the media, note that the CNBC special included interviews with a variety of persons who expressed a variety of opinions on the topic of the AR-15, interviews on FOX only include FOX flakes like Gretchen Karlsen and Steve Douchey agreeing with each other like some dorks in a HSN infommercial!

The Greek only wants to "understand" Wayne LaPierre's backside! He probably sees "black-helicopters" (probably flown by black pilots from Kenya) in his dreams!

the subject of public-opinion polls, while most of the major non-partisan polls (neither FOX nor Huffington Post are "non-partisan") like Quinnipiac, Rasmussen, Gallup, or PPP show an 80-90% approval for universal background checks, some rural polls show a slightly lower approval-rating (i.e. one was 44% in favor vs. 43% against) ... Duh, redux! THERE ARE FEWER PEOPLE IN RURAL AREAS. THAT IS WHY WE CALL THEM "RURAL"!!! ... Sorry for the shouting, but sometimes that's the only way to shake dummies out of their stupors!

Sticky is slowly beginning to get the point. He admits that the Tsarnaev brothers "may" have obtained firearms and other things via the black market ... Duh! it is for that reason that the entire UNITED STATES needs comprehensive background checks, an end to interstate gun-trafficking, and the closing of gun-show loopholes ... The CNBC special was quite fair. Apart from obvious whack-jobs like Yeager, CNBC interviewed women who take gun training because they seriously feel "threatened", a dentist who is not a criminal, psycho, or anti-government kook who relieves his "stress" by popping off targets at the gun range ... The needs of these folks, however, do NOT trump the rights of the majority of Americans to feel safe in public places. Keep these guns at the gun range! ... ONE good reason why no one needs to own firearms like the AR-15 is that a great many veterans and most police officials DO consider them to be "battlefield" weapons! ... On

Freddie, I'm well aware of how background checks work in Ohio. And yes, you might be able to buy A gun at a gunshow without one being conducted. That same guy with ONE gun better not be selling more than that at a show. There's enough cops at any I've attended to police that.

You keep talking about the "multitude of weapons" they found? HOW MANY? The only reports I've seen said 2 pistols, a "M-4" clone, and 250 rounds of .223 ammo. That ain't an arsenal, nor is it a "multitude" of weapons. And reportedly, the serial numbers were obliterated from the pistols, so that sounds like "black market" guns to me.

But I appreciate the platitudes, it sounds like I've gotten under your skin over the years! I do what I can!
