Are the Second Amendment "rights" of Americans really being "threatened" - or is this complaint just another gimmick to get the right-wing, reactionary base "fired up" for 2012?

Well Bob, if you're not going to do it, I guess I'll have to ... Some of today's "pretend patriots" might want to look at what is happening in Egypt ... A real "revolution" isn't pretty ... Some Americans, however, are claiming that President Obama and his administration are "tyrants", and (in the words of failed Nevada Senatorial candidate Sharron Angle) "Second Amendment Solutions" might be needed ... Is she right? Or is she just "right-wing"? Inquiring minds want to know!

he's just engaging in a juvenile game of semantics that he thinks will score points with the uber-wingnut-gun-geek crowd .... Ask the parents of the kids killed at Sandy Hook if they think the debate over gun-violence is a "game"!

More "blame-the-messenger" crap from Sticky. He "didn't watch the CNBC show", but yet he's sure it was "lying" or "distorting" (Sticky's version of) the truth ... Stick IS a "frequent contributor" to The Times (not that there's anything wrong with that) who likes to call anyone a "liar" who disagrees with NRA "gospel". He's been calling people names in LTEs since the late 1980s and every time he's been called out for it he starts complaining and whining that he's being "picked on" ... His act is sooooo old it's got more whiskers than "Gabby" Hayes! ... FYI - The "catch" (in case Twig missed that part of my letter) is that background checks in 33 states (including Ohio) are ONLY required if the seller is a certified & licensed gun-dealer. Not all sellers at gun-shows (or flea markets and yard sales and even on the Internet) are "licensed" gun-dealers ... Stix KNOWS this, so

Yet another excellent reason to defund PBS and NPR. NO POLITICAL agenda should be taxpayer supported!

free, remind me again when anyone pulled your chain? Or is that your daily slam of Fox News?

I know you and Freddy think CNBC and PMSNBC are the only media outlets that tell the truth. I also know they lie as much as you accuse Fox of doing. It's just the fact that they spread the liberal BS that convinces you. I'd rather drill out my ear drums with a power drill than listen to their shills!

CNBC *****. Only tells one side of the story. The one that suits their agendas. Switch to Foxnews. They will tell you how it really is. But you wont like what they say, I bet.

Cont: spare me the chest beating, my friend! Failure to tell the whole story is merely lying at a "certain" level!

Oh, the Boston terrorists had an arsenal? Why was there a police report that the theory for why they killed the MIT officer was to get his gun?

How do you conclude they had an arsenal? The only report I found, a "Huff Po" story, said they had "pistols and a M-4 style rifle, with 250 rounds of ammo." That's a normal range visit for most folks I know. And, there is no way they had a rifle like that legally under state laws up there.

Bottom line, you may not be a "bald faced" liar. You sure are willing to stretch the truth. And that's still a lie.

But, I am a frequent contributor to the Times? Really, a letter every few months is frequent? I guess that claim is based on perspective?

Firearms homicides involving rifles account for less than 1% of gun homicides annually. The usual gun of choice is a pistol, usually bought on the black market from a fellow criminal. Not from the Goodman's gun show, not off the internet. To hear Manchin, little Tommy can go on-line and have guns sent straight to his house!

And, for the record, my rifle is exactly as it was built by the manufacturer. Sure, people "deck out" their rifles, of any style. I've seen many a person that own a bolt action rifle, that cost a few hundred dollars, mount optics on them worth twice or more the cost of the rifle. Good scopes aren't cheap!

I'll address your little letter when I arrive home, and have a way to have the letter pulled up in a separate window. But, bottom line for right now, a half truth is merely a lie of omission. So, spare me the chest

Yes Freddie, I saw your little tome, gee, I guess you sure told me, huh? There may be poll numbers like you claim, but, we both know most Americans get their news in "sound bite" answers. Having an informed view should require more than a 15 second 'blast" of info.

How many of the polled people even know that we already have laws that require background checks for gun shows and internet sales? Even CNN's buy of guns would have been from individuals, not dealers.

These same polls showed that background checks, or gun control at all, were well down the list of concerns these folks felt needed to be addressed.

I didn't catch the CNBC show, or the more recent PBS show. An internet based poll from the PBS program had much different results on people's opinions on background checks. I don't think the typical gun owner is a real big PBS "news" viewer.

Statistics say that, at the present time, most Americans do NOT own guns, but (as Greek & Stick like to brag) gun-sales ARE indeed up ... This means that most of the 70 million guns owned in America are owned by a few folks. Some of these are "law-abiding" gun-owners who use weapons for hunting or self-protection. Some are not. Some are criminals. Some are "conspiracy" nuts or anti-goverment whack-jobs who might be more dangerous then the hoods ... Keep Guantanamo open.. We might need it after all! Have a good night y'all!

@Greek - Some of your so-called "patriots" act more like Benedict Arnolds! How's the "insurrection" goin'? You and Yeager need to read more history and less crap from Wayne LaPaiere and Ted Nugent!

FYI - Because of its many attachments and "enhancements" for female gun-geeks, the AR-15 is called the "Barbie" of the firearms world ... Hey Twiggy, is your "Barbie" doll "dressed to kill"?

Posted 51 days ago.

@Sticky - How'd you like my letter in today's paper? Procede to whine, whine, whine!

Posted 51 days ago.

The CNBC documentary features an interview with James Yeager, uber-gun-rights-nutjob who said "If they try to take away this weapon, I might have to start killing people." ... Yeager's so-called "right" to play with his toys - or his perceived "right" to "kill" anyone who doesn't agree with his conspiratorial views on government - do NOT trump the right of my grandkids and others to live in a society that is safe and from the threats of gun-nuts like Yeager (and some others I might mention) who have no respect for the rights of others ... Yeah, yeah, Sticky! Rant on! But DON'T call me a "liar" again!!!

The school that prohibited the kid from wearing an NRA T-shirt was out-of-line, but so are the gun-geeks who are trying to use this isolated incident as fodder to promote their whack-job agenda ... I wonder if the Stick watched the CNBC special, "America's Gun, The Rise of the AR-15" the other night. It was highly informative and showed how extremist gun nuts (HEY STICKY, I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU!) view this weapon as a high-priced (but ego-enhancing)"toy"! There was a lot of Stickhauler-type quibbling from the gun-fetish crowd about what is or is not a "combat" or "assault" type weapon ... For example, the gun-geeks say that weapons without bayonet attachments or "flash" suppression devices (used on the battlefield to protect concealed snipers) are "not combat weapons". The documentary showed how easy it is to convert semi-automatic weapons to fully-automatic ones ...

You really are ignorant, huh? These companies would not be moving overseas, they're producing products that the government often prohibits import into the US.

Beretta moved into Maryland to produce the M-9 pistol, the original ones accepted by the military were imports from their plants in Italy. Taraus built a plant in Florida so they could offer firearms they had built in Brazil, and banned for import by the government, could be sold here.

Our government prohibits gun makers from importing certain gun into the US quite often, to protect our own companies from cheaper competition. Springfield Armory has parts made overseas, and assembles them in Illinois. Glock has parts made in Austria, and assembled in Georgia. Most custom 1911 makers use "Caspian" frames, made overseas, as well as internal parts imported into our country.
