CLEAN... ENERGY

Offshore wind farms from New Jersey to Virginia took a big step closer to reality with the completion of a review that showed the renewable energy source would not cause major environmental damage, officials said today. Wind projects off the coasts of Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and New Jersey are being studied. The Mid-Atlantic lease proposal follows the Cape Wind project in Massachusetts that was given the go-ahead in 2010 after 9 years of federal review."No developer should have to wait nine or 10 years," for approval, Salazar said. The response from the developers was "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

I guess everyone has had sufficient time to discuss the Eagle Slaughter clause in wind power contracts. The point of that post was that we can all remember huge civil engineering projects that were held up or canceled do to the project endangering the habitat or wellbeing of some creature. Snail darter, spotted owl or some other species postponing a project when the project was on the wrong side of political correctness. It was not too long ago that any project that would kill an Eagle would be killed first and never go ahead and be completed.

So does this mean Duke energy will get their million dollar fine refunded???

The U.S. Interior Department on Friday issued a rule that highlights a tension lingering between two key goals of the environmental movement: developing renewable energy sources and protecting wildlife. The newly finalized rule would grant 30-year permits allowing wind farms and other projects to accidentally kill federally protected eagles. The new rule allows the department to issue permits to wind farms or other projects that harm or kill eagles otherwise protected under the decades old Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. So we now issue permits that say it is OK to kill eagles as long as you support the presidant’s agenda.

With the combination of coal-fired power plant retirements and a possible increase in natural gas prices, wholesale electricity prices are expected to increase for on-peak and off-peak hours.

According to a report from The Brattle Group that uses a case study for the eastern PJM region, the study says the potential increase in energy prices due only to coal plant retirements could be around $3-$4 per megawatt-hour (MWh) for on-peak hours and $1-$2/MWh for off-peak hours. If gas prices continue to increase due to replacing the retired coal plants, energy prices could be as much as $9-$11/MWh for on-peak hours and $5-$6/MWh for off-peak hours.

MOd. You do realize that the earth itself gives off radiation. In fact right now you are being exposed to probably .30 rems of radiation. Asknot. Mostly the stuff about Obamacare not financially wrecking the country pretty swiftly and pollution.

Let the shake down begin..Rush was correct again.. It’s all about the money:

Following a devastating typhoon that killed thousands in the Philippines, a routine international climate-change conference in Warsaw turned into an emotional forum, with developing countries demanding compensation from the worst-polluting countries for damage they say they already are suffering.

greek- you mentioned something about the amount of spent "fule" occupying space equal to a volume that " would only fill a football filed 3 meters high". If it had only the toxicity of your daily spent "fule", it really wouldn't be a problem. However, it lasts for thousands of years, and can,in the wrong hands, devastate millions,.. both in terms of acreage and humans..

Japan took a major step back on Friday from earlier pledges to slash its greenhouse gas emissions. Under its new goal, Japan, one of the world’s top polluters, would still seek to reduce its current emissions. But it would release 3 percent more greenhouse gases in 2020 than it did in 1990, rather than the 6 percent cut it originally promised or the 25 percent reduction it promised two years before the 2011 nuclear disaster.

Late announcement of the potential construction of a (natural gas) Cracker plant in Wood County, WV. YEAH!!! More needed jobs!

But won't the lower natural gas prices, that many of us were anticipating from the development of the local Marcellus Shale deposits, to heat our homes, be offset by that Cracker plant's competing demands for the volumes of the very same locally produced gas, as a raw material?

asknot - Let America open it's collective eyes (and wallets) concerning the cumulative damage of ObamaCare and the TEA Party will be singing "We've Only Just Begun" in 2014.

As to YOUR feelings about the international consensus on the TEA Party, not every nation is stocked with Liberal Idiots, like you apparently want to believe. The ones that will have their hands stung, by an inevitable reduction to America's foreign aid program, will just have to s-uck it up and hate us FOR FREE. Right now, they are assured we have an intellectual lightweight in office.

Do you suppose that the progressive 'geniuses' that brought us Obama(Demo)Care are more intellectually insightful with their torrential rush to shutdown our coal mines and coal-fired electric generation plants?

My read is, it will take America many years to unburden itself from the encumbrances that the present administration has set for us with it's "Transforming America" agenda. Replacing Obummer with Benghazi Hillary will only delay that recovery and diminish America's international prestige even more.

I wonder if First Mate F. Oneill is still standing fast next to Captain Obama at the helm of the USS Titanic? He's been peculiarly silent of late.

I watched Pandoras Promise directed by Robert Stone last night. Afterwards Anderson Cooper had a panel to discuss it. People are realizing that wind and solar cannot keep up with the demand over the next decade and nuclear is probably gonna have to do it. FRance was pointed out as having 80% nuclear and cheap power. All of the spent fule in the US would only fill a football filed 3 meters high. And. The US is buying other countries nuclear warheads and converting them into fuel for power plants. I did not know that. The environmentalist are having a fit though. Pres. Obama endorses the nuclear plan.
