Institute for Learning in Retirement Fall Program set

The Institute for Learning in Retirement at Marietta College has set its Fall Program.

Seven new classes are in the Fall 2024 lineup. The offerings include both four-week and eight-week courses on a diverse array of topics including literature, dog training, history, foreign films, archaeology and politics.

Most classes are held at Marietta College in Thomas Hall Room 124, except for one which is by Zoom only and one which is hybrid, both in-person and Zoom.

Cost for four-week classes is $15 and $30 for eight-week classes $30. For more information and to register online, go to www.marietta.edu/ilr. Deadline for registration is Sept. 15.

Classes are: Reduce Your Carbon Footprint presented by Linda Rogness, a chemist and retired educator from Muskingum University; Teaching Your Dog Manners. Is your pet a possible therapy dog? presented by Debbie Smith, who has taught basic and advanced dog training for over 30 years; “Uncommon Cargo!: Escape from Saigon” presented by Jason Nulton, instructor in the Marietta College McDonough Center for Leadership & Business, coordinator of student veterans and Air Force/Space Force ROTC; Literary Wild Women of the Last Millennium: From Hrotsvit of Gandersheim to the Flapper Era presented by Rebecca Phillips, professor emeritus of English, West Virginia University at Parkersburg; Two Great French Movie Makers: Varda and Demy presented by David Cress, a retired physicist and Marietta College engineering professor; Introduction to the Prehistory of Southeastern Ohio presented by Wes Clarke, a registered Professional Archaeologist and collections manager at The Castle in Marietta; Reality Politics: How Elections are Won presented by Bob Carr, who has experience in national and local campaigns and was a congressional candidate.
