Traffic stop yields arrest: Wheeling woman arrested for possession of fentanyl, trafficking
BELPRE TOWNSHIP — A Wheeling woman was arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop on Ohio 7 in Belpre Township by Washington County Sheriff’s detectives.
Amber Nicole Gregory, 41, 1100 Chapline St., Wheeling, was charged with one count of possession of fentanyl and one count of trafficking in fentanyl, both first-degree felonies, and one county of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, according to a media release from th Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Gregory on Ohio 7 near Tower Road after observing a traffic violation by the driver of the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
The detectives made contact with Gregory and she advised she was going to Parkersburg from Wheeling.
Detectives deployed a police dog, Ivar, and it conducted a free-air sniff on the vehicle. Ivar gave a positive indication on the rear passenger door, the release said.
The detectives conducted a probable cause search and located a cup containing a dark liquid, according to the release. The cup also had a foreign object containing a white powdery substance, the release said.
Gregory did not speak to the detectives and was advised of her Miranda rights, the release said.
She was processed into the Washington County Jail around 2:37 a.m. Tuesday, according to Washington County Jail records. A cash surety bond of $100,000 has been set.
She remained in jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
