Two arrests made after separate events involving prostitution and a high speed chase
Two men were arrested this week after separate events involving prostitution and a high speed chase with speeds reaching 100 miles per hour, according to press releases from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
On Dec. 30, an individual went to the Marietta Fire Department and claimed Timothy Chancellor, 48, raped her at his residence in Belpre Township, the release said.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies interviewed the victim who said she was a sex worker through an online site and Chancellor had agreed via text message to meet up and exchange sex acts for $100.
The victim said Chancellor had raped her and never gave her the $100, according to the release.
Tuesday, a search warrant was executed at Chancellor’s residence, during which he fled to his bedroom and attempted to hide a straw and glass plate containing methamphetamine, the release said, and agents also recovered 32 firearms.
Officials from the sheriff’s office said Chancellor “lied about meeting the victim for sex, deleted a voicemail from the victim (later recovered), obtained a new cell phone, and appears to have tampered with camera footage from his Ring doorbell at the time of the offense,” the release said.
“Eventually, Chancellor admitted to receiving consensual oral sex from the victim in Belpre Township and attempting to mislead officers.”
Chancellor was arrested by the Southeastern Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force and charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, engaging prostitution, a first-degree misdemeanor, and obstructing official business, a second-degree misdemeanor, according to the release.
Following a separate incident, agents with the Southeast Major Crimes Task Force attempted to execute a search warrant for the arrest of Rodney Duane Shriver, 33, Nelsonville, which resulted in a pursuit in Washington County, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Agents first saw Shriver in a parking lot in Lowell and he drove away in a friend’s car heading southbound on Ohio 60 toward Marietta, the release said.
Speeds reached 100 miles per hour and “once in Marietta, Shriver eventually made his way to State Route 821 and then northbound on State Route 821 towards Warner, Ohio, continuing eastbound on State Route 530 back into Lowell,” the release said.
Once in Lowell, Shriver allegedly lost control and hit a utility pole and nobody sustained injuries but he was then taken into custody, according to the release.
The chase spanned around 32 miles and officers from Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Marietta Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted.
Shriver was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, possession of fentanyl, failure to comply with order or signal of peace officer and parole violation. His warrant was out of Morgan County for contempt of court, according to the sheriff’s office.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be pending, the sheriff’s office said.
