Marietta Kiwanis Club Celebrates Successful Year

Chartered in March 1922, the Kiwanis Club of Marietta recently celebrated its 102nd anniversary at their Installation dinner at the Broughton Community Building.

President Donovan Peoples recognized John Halliday as “Kiwanian of the Year” for 2023-2024 noting his eagerness to provide much needed support to the co-chairs at the annual Pancake Days event, plus his involvement in all club activities as the reasons he was selected.

Officers and Board Members for the year beginning Oct. 1 were inducted. Incoming officers are: President, Shoshanna Brooker; Vice President, Carrie Barth; Secretary, Brenda Garletts, Treasurer, Michelle Secrest and Immediate Past President, Donovan Peoples.

In addition to the officers, members of the Board of Directors serving for 2024-2025 are: Joan Zoller, John Halliday, Ann Hontz, Tom Hushion, Melanie Singer, Mark Doebrich, Amy Bean, Joe Grimm, Samantha Skinner and Scott Smith.

New members were inducted: Tami Selan, Jill Kirtland, and Pam Bates.

The following members were recognized for their length of service in Kiwanis: Joe Grimm- 49 years; Donovan Peoples- 39 years; Dorothy Peppel- 36 years; Margie Greenless and Jeanette Hale- 33 years; Mark Doebrich- 32 years; Kyle Lankford- 30 years, Jan Seaman- 29 years; Linda Eddy, Tom Hushion and Jennifer Offenberger- 28 years; Judy VanDyk-27 years; John Halliday and David Mitchem- 25 years; Marilynn Scharff, Joan Zoller and Inez Bowie- 24 years, Sandy DeLong- 23 years, Michelle Secrest and Rick Peoples- 21 years.

The Kiwanis Club of Marietta is a service club with the purpose to promote human and spiritual values, good citizenship, fellowship and altruistic service through voluntary action. Kiwanis clubs around the world are dedicated to serving children and young adults, developing their leadership skills and recognizing good character traits.

The Marietta Kiwanis Club is active in the community through various events such as Terrific Kids at Washington School, Waterford Elementary Builders Club, Marietta High School and Waterford High School Key Club Sponsorship, Pancake Days, maintenance of local parks, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, Christmas Literacy project, donation of Literacy baskets for numerous benefits and fire departments, Gospel Mission donations, Newport Food Pantry and free library at Boys and Girls Club.
