Several Washington County Races are Unopposed

The November general election will have several races where candidates are running unopposed.

There are two open Washington County Commission seats and incumbent Republican Commissioners James Booth and Charlie Schilling are running unopposed for the seats they currently occupy. Once they win the general election, this will be the second term for both.

The race for one of the Washington County Court of Common Pleas judges is being run this general election and the only candidate is the Republican already serving in the position, Judge John M. Halliday. This is Halliday’s first term as Court of Common Pleas judge. He was originally appointed to the position by the Washington County Republican Party in 2020 to serve out part of the rest of Judge John Triplett’s term who retired shortly into his term due to a brain tumor. Then Halliday won the November 2020 general election to serve the rest of Triplett’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2024.

The current Washington County Treasurer is Republican Tammy Bates and she is running again for the seat in the November 2024 general election. She is the only candidate running for treasurer. Bates is currently in her second term and once she wins the general election she will start her third term.

Republican Alicia Cannon is running unopposed for Washington County Clerk of Courts in the November general election. Current Clerk of Courts Brenda Wolfe is not running for the position. This would be her first term as an elected official, though she has been involved in Washington County courts before as bailiff for Washington County Court of Common Pleas Judge Mark Kerenyi.

Republican Roger Wright is the current Washington County Engineer. He is finishing up his third term in the position and is running unopposed for a fourth term as engineer in the November general election.

Family Medicine Doctor Roxanne Cech, who works at Memorial Health System’s Wayne Street Campus in Marietta, is running as a Republican for Washington County Coroner in the November general election. Cech has never held office before and once she wins the general election this would be her first term as an elected official.
