Washington County Veterans Service Commission will host the Washington County Veterans Hall of Fame on Nov. 1 and starts at 5 p.m. at Marietta College’s Dyson-Baudo Recreation Center.

Following the doors opening at 5 p.m. there will be a social hour that starts at 5:30 p.m. that will last until the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m.

According to Executive Director of the Washington County Veterans Service Office Darren Shearlock, the Washington County Veterans Hall of Fame aims to honor distinguished men and women from the county who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces with valor, exemplary service, or significant sacrifice. The Hall of Fame also recognizes veterans who continue to contribute to their communities, state, and nation through volunteerism, advocacy, professional accomplishments, and public service.

Each year, the organization selects individuals for several prestigious awards. Awards include the Veteran of the Year, the Distinguished Service Award for civilians, the Veterans Employer of the Year, and the Veterans Community Service Award.

Additionally, the Washington County Veterans Hall of Fame Committee Chair presents an Award of Excellence to highlight exceptional contributions. Shearlock said these awards honor veterans, civilians, and employers who have made a significant impact on the veteran community in Washington County.

Shearlock said that the Hall of Fame’s mission is to inspire patriotism within the community and motivate veterans to continue serving. It celebrates veterans who have demonstrated excellence both during and after their military service, recognizing their lasting contributions to the community. Through these efforts, the Washington County Veterans Hall of Fame strives to reinforce a sense of pride, honor, and service among veterans and the broader community.

The annual ceremony acknowledges those who have made remarkable sacrifices and contributions, spotlighting the positive influence veterans continue to have after their time in uniform.
